For their family’s highly personal retreat in California, the stars called on architect Stephen Samuelson to design an adobe-style residence full of intimate spaces, organic forms, and handcrafted details.

The 25,000-square-foot house has a surprising intimacy—a soul animated by the craftsmanship on display and the spirit of the celebrity power couple that live here with their children, Willow, Jaden, and Trey, Will’s son from his first marriage. “For Will and me this home was always a spiritual endeavor,” Jada says. “We’re very earthy, organic people. We wanted to create a family retreat, something made by hand and as natural as possible, something that ties back to the land.”

The Smiths’ domestic odyssey began when Will was working with costar Gene Hackman filming the 1998 thriller Enemy of the State. “Gene loves Santa Fe,” Will says. “He has a house there, and he always talked about it. And then Wild Wild West came up, and we were shooting outside of Santa Fe. So I thought, Let me go see Gene’s house.” He admired what he saw. “I just loved that adobe flavor and feeling.”

The living room includes a 1930s copper lantern from Downtown, columns wrapped in jute rope, a pair of ’60s Brazilian rosewood chairs (at left) from Noho Modern, custom-made lounge seating (at right) upholstered in a Rose Tarlow leather, wing chairs covered in kilims and leather, and a beige silk area rug by Hokanson.

The bedroom terrace has pendant lights by Tom Dixon from Twentieth Art and Design, drum tables by Studio JRM, and cushions covered in Donghia, Holly Hunt, and Perennials fabrics.

Will calls the lake gazebo his favorite spot: “Answers come to me out there,” he says.

DAILY INSPIRATION: Awakened By A Close Friend

A few years ago I had some tests to screen for cancer, and I was nervous about the outcome. My anxiety was magnified as I thought about the fact that while the medical personnel were well-trained and extremely competent, they were also strangers who had no relationship with me.

After awakening from the anesthesia, however, I heard the beautiful sound of my wife’s voice: “It’s great, Honey. They didn’t find anything.” I looked up at her smiling face and was comforted. I needed the assurance of someone who loved me.

A similar assurance lies ahead for all who have trusted Jesus. Believers can be comforted in knowing that when they wake up in heaven, One who loves them greatly—Jesus—will be there.

The Book of Common Prayer expresses this Christian hope: “After my awakening, [my Redeemer] will raise me up; and in my body I shall see God. I myself shall see, and eyes behold Him who is my friend and not a stranger.”

Do you have trouble facing mortality? Jesus promised to be there when we slip from this world into the next. He said, “Where I am [heaven], there you may be also” (John 14:3). What a comfort for believers to know that after death we will be awakened by a close Friend.

What wonders await us in yonder fair land!
The face of our Savior, the touch of His hand,
No tears and no crying, no sighs or despair,
For Jesus is waiting to welcome us there. —Kerr

To see Jesus will be heaven’s greatest joy.

GOSSIP: Fantasia confirms Pregnancy...but whose the Father?!?!

We suspected something was brewing in Fannie's tummy when she performed "Collard Greens & Cornbread" on American Idol sometime ago....

Fantasia Barrino has confirmed reports that she has another child on the way. After rumors swirled late June that she was carrying ex-boyfriend Antwaun Cook’s child, the American Idol alum officially announced her pregnancy at a charity event for the opening of the Riverview Apartments in Jacksonville, Florida on Sunday, July 31.  

"You are the first persons that I share this news with. And I share this with you, because I can relate to you. And for a while I walked around figuring out what will they say and what will they think about me. But now I tell you I don't live my life for folk," Fantasia told the crowd in the video that has been removed from YouTube. "This child that I carry. God has given me this child. And I don't have to hide it from none of y'all."

This will be Fantasia’s second child, she already has a daughter, Zion Quari Barrino, who will turn 10 on August 8.

It was reported in November (2010) that Fantasia was allegedly pregnant with Cook’s child but tried to commit suicide after having an abortion.

GOSSIP: Jennifer Lopez & Diddy reunite during her SPLIT?!?!

 

After coming face-to-face with each other on 'American Idol' earlier this year, it looks as though P Diddy and Jennifer Lopez have reignited their relationship after having been spotted together in New York, less than a month after she announced her divorce from husband Marc Anthony.

The 'On The Floor' singer and Diddy dated in 1990s and it was because of her relationship with Diddy that she was projected into fame, but now it looks as though the two are giving it another go.

A source close to Lopez has reportedly told BET: "Puff wouldn't be my first choice for her, but then again he was always very supportive of her sex symbol image and never got mad when she wore sexy clothes. He actually encouraged it."

It was rumored that Anthony tried to control Lopez's dress and thought that she would often dress "too sexily".

An insider has claimed that P Diddy thinks Lopez is "the love of his life".

Representatives for the two stars have not commented on the reports.
