Jay-Z, Kanye West, Beyonce, Kelly, Solange & More Preview ‘Watch the Throne’

After nearly a year in the making, Jay-Z and Kanye West presented their history-making album to their friends and industry tastemakers at a private listening session at the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City on Monday night. 

The rap kings showed no signs of their rumored feud as they previewed tracks off Watch the Throne, a week before the project’s iTunes release. 

The star-studded evening drew the likes of Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, Q-Tip, Solange, Busta Rhymes, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and more.

She was spotted backstage looking beautiful wearing a Lela Rose cotton-threaded tulle dress from the Fall 2011 collection.

Her dress has been modified as the skirt under the cotton thread overlay has been shortened to make more of an impact as a performance piece.

Jennifer Hudson brought the house down for a good cause. The Grammy-winning singer lent her powerful pipes to Russell Simmons’ 12th Annual Art for Life Benefit at the music mogul’s estate in the Hamptons on Saturday. The Def Jam founder was joined by his ex-wife Kimora Lee Simmons, brothers Rev Run and Danny Simmons, nieces Angela and Vanessa Simmons, and the rest of his family. VIPs including Mary J. Blige, Taraji P. Henson, and L.A. Reid bid on unique items to help raise money for his non-profit organization and Miri Ben-Ari entertained guests by playing the violin.

MUSIC NEWS: Lil’ Kim Signs New Deal with Universal Music Group

ince parting ways with Atlantic Records in 2008, Lil’ Kim has been linked to nearly every record company possible; including Roc Nation, Cash Money, and G-Unit. 

Well, the bidding war is finally over, and the speculations can be put to rest, as Kim has recently signed a new record deal. Despite offers from many major labels, The Queen Bee has chosen Universal Music Group as the place to begin the next phase of her unprecedented career.

The pint-sized rapper has already begun recording an album for the company, which includes the new ‘not-yet-released’ single “Looks Like Money,” and is scheduled to be released later this year.

There is still no word as of yet if the deal with UMG is set to include Kim’s own imprint/record label or not, but it is safe to say she has a major company backing her and has now been added to their roster as well.

SPOTTED: Lauryn Hill Performing a week after giving Birth [PHOTOS/VIDEO]

Lauryn Hill hit the stage at the LA Rising Festival this past weekend, just a week after giving birth to her new son. She worked the stage of the Coliseum while performing some of her greatest hits. According to the LA Times review:

Lauryn Hill killed it, even if much of the crowd was visibly ambivalent. Her set, which featured a nine-piece band that fused hard R&B and soul with heavy-duty Jamaican rhythms (and riddims), featured impressive reworkings of her classic material, both solo and as a third of the Fugees.

Hill, who had her sixth child last week, was none the worse for wear; on the contrary, her voice, though at times gruff, was filled with emotion; when she opened with a heavy version of “Killing Me Softly”.  In fact, her presence in downtown Los Angeles alongside Rage served to illustrate what a profound absence hers and the band’s creative voices have been.

I do like the convenience of sending love to kids….supporting me and showing me love.

On her style growing up
[I was] totally [a] tomboy…I started modeling early, so [dressing] up always felt like work. I used to love to wear my brother Rod’s clothes.

On what she’s been up to
I have been crazy busy, back in the studio getting my album done. Lots of new editorial shoots coming out. Really been blessed lately-feels like my time is now.
I’m a whole new version of myself, and I love it, so I know the people who really love my music will too. Every session is fun, actually-the producers and writers are dope. I couldn’t be happier.

On her style
[My style] is cool, fun, and me. I love Kate Moss, style wise. I love shopping. I love to mix it up. I love Balmain, Givemchy, but then, I can go crazy at Joyrich in LA or buy ten pairs of Jordans or buy all the men’s T-shirts at Zara and cut them up. It’s all about having fun and making things your own.

On what she collects
Mostly Jordans, Chucks, and some Iros-[they] feel like I have no shoes on!

On why kids look up to her and her style
I like to keep an effortless edge to everything I do. I think the kids get that, and that inspires them to do the same.
