Janelle Monae does not want to 'SELL SEX' or make 'CRAPPY R&B' Songs

Unlike many of her contemporaries who use their sexuality during performance to gain popularity and intrigue, Janelle Monae has insisted that not all female artists want to go down that route.

The 'ArchAndroid' star, whose sales reported jumped 5000% after her Glastonbury performance, said that there is little options available on the music scene.

In an interview with the Evening Standard, Monae said: "I think there's a lack of diversity. People think that we're all monolithic and it's hard for young aspiring girls, who don't necessarily want to sell sex and strictly sing crappy R&B songs. They need to understand there's a different blueprint that you can create."

Monae, who performed at the Roskilde festival yesterday in Denmark, also added: "I think it's absolutely necessary for the balance of the universe that there are other representations and a different perspective of the woman."

Perhaps that's a message to her fellow R&B women?
