BET Awards Nominations: Kanye West, Beyonce Lead The Pack

Expect lots of drama, plenty of laughs and possibly even a few superheroes in the building when Samuel L. Jackson hosts the 2012 BET Awards on July 1, live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. On Tuesday (May 22), BET announced the nominees for their 2012 awards show and even confirmed performances by Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj (though there was no official word on whether the Hulk will attend).

BET president Stephen Hill held a press conference in New York City on Tuesday, and with the help of Big Sean, DJ Khaled, A$AP Rocky, Diggy, Mindless Behavior and Melanie Fiona, he spilled the beans about the big show. Samuel L. wasn't in attendance, but "The Avengers" star sent a pre-taped message promising that the show will be "too big to miss."

Sean broke through last year when he dropped his debut LP Finally Famous. Next, the "Marvin & Chardonnay" MC will appear on G.O.O.D Music's Cruel Summer compilation and then follow up with his sophomore album.

Sean isn't the only big dog being honored at the awards show. Chris Brown, Usher and Bruno Mars are among the nominees in the Best Male R&B category, while Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige and Rihanna will duke it out in the Best Female category. The Throne, Diddy-Dirty Money, Maybach Music Group and Eminem's Bad Meets Evil will compete for Best Group, and Nicki Minaj looks to be the favorite for Best Female Hip Hop.

NEW MUSIC: Dwele - 'What Profit'

Detroit native Dwele dropped "What Profit" today, the first single from his upcoming and currently untitled fifth album.

The Grammy nominated crooner and musician, whose last album was 2010's W.ants W.orld W.omen, is almost too smooth on the new song, breaking down just how it would be if he was your man.

His vocals mostly skate over a simple guitar-drum break, which--aside from being very summery--is totally effective in conveying intimacy.

Give "Profit" a few listens below.

NEW MUSIC: Whitney Houston ft. Jordin Sparks - 'Celebrate'

Whitney Houston sparkles on her last-ever recording, the feel-good "Sparkle" soundtrack number "Celebrate."

Recorded with co-star Jordin Sparks and produced by R. Kelly, the song serves as the lead single for the late Houston's last-ever film.

"Celebrate" premiered on Ryan Seacrest's website earlier this morning, a day after Sparks appeared at the Billboard Music Awards to pay tribute to her co-star by performing Houston's legendary "Bodyguard" single "I Will Always Love You."

"I put myself completely, 100 percent onstage every time I perform," Sparks told MTV News of giving "everything" for her Houston tribute. "It's just very special. I feel very honored to be able to honor Whitney in this way and to sing one of her songs. I've actually never performed this song before ever. It's one of the songs I've always been like, 'Leave that alone,' so it's nerve-racking for me," she admitted.

"Sparkle" is set to open on August 17. Meanwhile take a listen to the track below!

GOSSIP: VH1 reveals cast of ‘Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta'?

VH1’s new docu-soap, “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta,” a spin-off of the very successful original version, debuts June 18 with a cast mostly packed with names and faces that may only be familiar to Atlanta hip-hop fans. So to be broadly appealing, it will have to come down to personalities and chemistry. Will they pop? Will they entertain? Will they provide the proper amount of manufactured drama?

Cast members include:

Stevie J., a three-time Grammy Award winning producer who has worked with Diddy, Jay-Z and Mariah Carey.
  • Stevie J’s girlfriend Mimi Faust.
  • Up-and-coming Latina rapper Joseline.
  • Lil Scrappy, his girlfriend Erica Dixon and his mom, nicknamed “Momma Dee.”

  • Atlanta rapper Rasheeda, who is still seeking a big break, plus her manager and husband Kirk Frost.
The original version, which has already aired two seasons since its debut in March, 2011, regularly draws 2 to 3 million viewers per week in its original airing. These shows are basically variations on the “Real Housewives” theme. Ensemble casts of women with somewhat similar interests (or geographic locations) set to argue, bicker and occasionally throw fists if necessary to get air time.

VIDEO PREMIERE: DJ Khaled – Take It To The Head (feat. Chris Brown, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj & Lil Wayne)

DJ Khaled releases an all-star single called "Take It to the Head" from his upcoming studio album. The disc jokey collaborates with top-notch artists Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Rick Ross in the new track.

The music video was filmed earlier in May, just a few days after his tour bus caught fire while he was on his way to 2012 Grad Bash in Orlando. He and his entourage escaped the fire uninjured, but lost his jewelry, clothes and other valuable things.

In addition to the "Take It to the Head", there are two more new music videos arriving online. One is released by B.o.B for his track "Play for Keeps" from second album "Strange Clouds", and the other is debuted by Kreayshawn for her 2 Chainz-featured song "Breakfast" from upcoming debut album "SomethingAbout Kreay".
