R & B FLASHBACK: MARIAH CAREY - 'ALWAYS BE MY BABY'

In honor of Mariah and the birth of her new children, today's R&B throwback comes from none other than MiMi herself.
Lifted from her fifth studio album, Daydream. It was released by Columbia Records on March 9, 1996 as the third US single and fourth overall. The song was written by Carey, Jermaine Dupri and Manuel Seal, who also produced the song. A mid-tempo song, its lyrics describe the feeling of attachment and unity the protagonist feels towards her estranged lover, even though they are no longer together. She says he will always be a part of her and will "always be her baby" even after they move on.
Music critics have praised "Always Be My Baby". The song became Carey's eleventh chart topper on the Billboard Hot 100, tying her with Madonna and Whitney Houston for most number one singles for a female artist. It spent two weeks atop the chart and became Carey's eight chart topper on the Canadian Singles Chart. In other regions, the song performed moderately, peaking at number three in the United Kingdom, number five in New Zealand, number seventeen in Australia and in the top twenty in most music markets where it charted.
The song's music video features scenes of Carey frolicking by a campsite, as well as swinging on a large swing over a lake. Additional inter-cuts include scenes of two children, one male and female, sneaking out at night and spending time together by a campfire similar to Carey's location. The song was performed live during her Daydream World Tour (1996) and many of her future tours and concerts. "Always Be My Baby" was also featured in Carey's compilation albums, Number 1's (1998), Greatest Hits (2001) and The Ballads (2008).

JASON DERULO GOES NUDE FOR COSMO MAG

Jason Derulo was riding solo in the wardrobe department for his latest photoshoot.
Following in the footsteps of Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, the pop singer has posed nude for an upcoming issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, he announced on Twitter.
Like Levine, the “In My Head” singer stripped down to absolutely nada for a good cause. “I did a completely nude photo-shoot 2day with cosmo magazine to promote testicular cancer awareness,” he tweeted.
Levine’s nearly-NSFW shot included his model girlfriend covering up his naughty bits with her freshly manicured hands. No word on how Jason kept his modesty modest.
So, when can everyone take a peek at Jason’s charitable nakedness? “That’s coming in June Ladies,” Jason wrote.
Now that’s a reason to anticipate summer, ladies and gents.

DAILY INSPIRATION: PEACE & RECONCILIATION

Peace And Reconciliation

When the US Civil War ended in 1865, more than half a million soldiers lay dead, the economy was shattered, and people remained deeply divided politically. The observance of Mother’s Day in the United States began with two women’s efforts for peace and reconciliation during this time of anguish. In 1870, Julia Ward Howe called for an International Mother’s Day on which women would unite in opposing war in all its forms. A few years later, Anna Reeves Jarvis began her annual Mother’s Friendship Day in an effort to reunite families and neighbors alienated by the war. There is always great suffering when friends and families are fractured and unwilling to forgive.
The gospel of Jesus Christ brings the promise of peace and reconciliation with God and with each other. When Peter asked Jesus how often he should forgive a brother who sinned against him (Matt. 18:21), the Lord surprised everyone with His answer of “seventy times seven” (v.22). Then He told an unforgettable story about a servant who had received forgiveness and failed to pass it on (vv.23-35). As God freely forgives us, so He requires that we extend what we have received to others.
With God’s love and power, forgiveness is always possible.

Oh, what joy and peace we forfeit,
When forgiveness we withhold;
Fellowship with God is broken,
And the heart grows hard and cold. —D. De Haan

Forgiveness is Christianity in action.

In recent news...
Beyoncé is being sued by the software developer Gate Five for allegedly pulling out of a deal to create Starpower: Beyoncé, a motion-sensing dance video game. The company is seeking more than $100 million for what they say in a summons obtained by New York Magazine was "a bad faith breach of contract so callous that, on what appeared to be a whim, she destroyed Gate Five's business and drove 70 people into unemployment, the week before Christmas."

According to Gate Five, the singer "had already negotiated lavish compensation terms to which she was contractually bound," but made an "extortionate demand for entirely new compensation terms" at a pivotal moment in the development of the game. The summons claims that Beyoncé's actions toward the company were so unscrupulous that they were renounced by her father Mathew Knowles, her manager at the time. Beyoncé dropped Knowles as her manager back in March.

ALICIA KEYS ON NEW 'ESSENCE' COVER

Grammy- Awarding winning songstress Alicia Keys covers Essence's June 2011 issue.

Alicia tells the mag:

“Falling in love is such a force, but this is a whole other level of magic.”

On music, marriage and motherhood: “I was very closed for a long time. But I feel so open now. To feel open like this means you’ve found the center in yourself. You’re not hiding; you’re not worried about anything. Everything’s going to be just fine.”

On dedicating a song to her mom: “In the past, I’ve written mostly from my own perspective. But I just wrote a song for my next album that was inspired by a conversation I had with a man who was expressing how indebted he feels to God. He said, ‘I owe God.’ Now, what an interesting thought. And as much as I believe in God, for me that translated into how much I owe my mother for who I am. So I went home and I wrote I Owe You. It’s dedicated to her…”

Alicia Keys has the 10th anniversary release/collector’s edtion of her debut album “Songs In A Minor” coming out later this month.

VOGUE ITALIA PAYS TRIBUTE TO BLACK BEAUTIES

Vogue Italia has continued to celebrate black models with a vibrant editorial in the glossy's May issue.
Jeneil Williams, Cici Ali, Ubah Hassan, Gayle McDonald, Kelly Moreira, Jae Childs, R'el Dade, Jasmine Tookas, Lily Taylor and Ariel Meredith strike a pose in summer duds and accessories in "Tribute to Black Beauties," photographed by Ellen von Unwerth and styled by Giulio Martinelli.
The accompanying text reads, in part:
A tribute is due to the woman whose skin tone ranges from alabaster to mahogany to smooth onyx, who can flawlessly carry any makeup look -- from gold dusted lids to fuchsia blush to ripe purple and pink glosses. These pages pay homage to the versatile woman whose hair can oscillate from a tightly coiled and coifed Afro, to sleek layers, to a slicked back pixie cut in a matter of minutes. To the divine woman whose enviably full lips, strong, white teeth, and delightful smile have been known to electrify the hearts of many. To the siren whose smooth, velvety skin blocks the sun yet remains supple and unblemished with the passage of time.
The new pictures are certainly a far style cry from the magazine's last all-black spread, "The Black Allure," which had a sort of flapper feel, featuring ladies clad in fringe, turbans and costume jewels. Not so practical for spring/anytime.
Take a look at a few pictures from "Tribute to Black Beauties," and head over to Vogue.it to see the rest.
